台灣學生學英文,大多數人都是在浪費時間、金錢,隨便玩玩而已。英文學來學去,學到最後一般英文書報也看不懂,寫簡單的英文句子可能也會錯誤連篇,學習英文的成果竟然只是具有一點點皮毛英語能力,而這種能力正好可以閱讀經過改寫的簡易版英文文章。
一大部分台灣學生的英文字彙能力只能達到美國小學中、低年級的程度,能達到美國小學高年級的字彙程度的台灣學生在本地已經算英語很好了【GEPT所公佈的全民英檢中高級參考單字表,都沒達到美國小六學生的字彙標準】,而台灣的大學生當中能具有美國初中生的字彙能力者更屬鳳毛麟角,這樣的英文能力必然是排名在全球英文水平比較落後的位置。
但英文程度很爛的地方也有少數人英文學得很好,甚至好到令人驚羨。所以我也想將我所整理的資料提供給台灣少數人參考研讀,我整理的單字雖然未達到美國12年級(等同高3) 的字彙標準,但也已確實涵蓋大部分的美國中學字彙,若熟悉這些單字大致上已能流利閱讀一般英文書籍和報章雜誌。
但多數台灣學生都無法完全學會和應用美國的小學程度字彙,那我列一些美國中學字彙要給誰看?我認為「美國中學字彙」是能否流利閱讀英文的關鍵字彙,
所以我列的單字是給台灣少數想流利閱讀一般英文書籍和報章雜誌的人看。
